Hands-On Learning Happening During This Week's Skills Fair

This week at Taylor Glen, ThriveMore’s commitment to hands on learning and clinical excellence was on full display as team members participated in the Skills Fair — an interactive training opportunity designed to build confidence, refresh essential care techniques, and introduce new, specialized skills.

The Skills Fair gives CNAs, LPNs and RNs the chance to step away from their day to day routines and focus on learning in a supportive environment where questions are encouraged and practice is hands on. From dressing a wound to reviewing dental care best practices and respirator safety, team members rotated through stations that reinforced both foundational knowledge and advanced care techniques.

On Wednesday, clinical team members from both Taylor House and Taylor Glen learned from a mix of trusted partner vendors and ThriveMore’s own Cameryn Armes, Regional Clinical Education and Development Coordinator. The collaborative setting allowed staff to engage directly with experts, explore new tools, and strengthen skills they use every day in resident care.

The Skills Fair has traveled to several ThriveMore communities this year, including Brookridge and Ardenwoods, ensuring that clinical team members across the organization have access to consistent, high quality training. This ongoing investment reflects ThriveMore’s belief that confident, well supported caregivers are essential to providing exceptional care for residents.

For RN Duchess Quetulio, who attended Wednesday’s Skills Fair, the experience was especially helpful. Having joined Taylor Glen about a month ago through ThriveMore’s international nurse program from Canada, she said the event helped reinforce her confidence as she continues settling into her role.

“It was very informative,” Quetulio said. Although she has experience working with older adults, she appreciated having certain skills demonstrated in detail. It helped her brush up on some of the basics, she added. “I see myself using a lot of things I learned today and putting that into my practice.”

Partner vendors played a key role in the day’s success. Amy Sheldon from SYResp staffed the respiratory station, helping clinical staff understand both equipment and proper methodology. Her focus, she said, was “just making sure they’re safe and the patients are safe.”

Additional partners in attendance included:

• Kris McBride, Wound Healing Technologies

• Pat Wagner, Senior Oral Health Services

• Katherine Baquero, Vohra Wound Physicians

The Skills Fair is just one of many ways ThriveMore invests in its team members — providing opportunities to learn, grow, and feel confident in their roles. That confidence ultimately supports ThriveMore’s mission of delivering the highest quality of care and creating a workplace where team members can thrive.
