What truly makes Taylor Glen special is our team.
Every day, team members show up with dedication, compassion and a deep sense of calling. They give of themselves in ways both big and small, forming meaningful bonds with residents and families. While the work is rewarding, it can also be emotionally heavy, especially when it comes time to say goodbye to residents who have become like family.
In recognition of that reality and to create space for reflection and healing, Taylor Glen leadership recently hosted a Blessing of the Hands ceremony for team members who wished to participate. The gathering offered a pause amid busy days, a chance to take a deep breath, be acknowledged and reflect on the impact of their work.
The ceremony was led by Jim Cooper and Chaplain Brian Sartor of Via Health Partners, who provide hospice support services at Taylor Glen. From the outset, the message was one of gratitude and affirmation.
“We acknowledge you,” Jim shared with those gathered. “We thank you.”
He explained that the Blessing of the Hands can hold different meaning for each person, whether spiritual, reflective or personal. He encouraged team members to honor their own experiences, including the losses they have carried in recent months. Jim read aloud the names of residents and team members who have passed away and invited those present to share memories or stories, creating space to collectively recognize the lives that had touched theirs.
Even when the work feels unseen or overwhelming, Jim reminded the group that their care makes a lasting difference.
“You are impacting people, and it’s a beautiful thing,” he said.
Brian echoed that sentiment, offering heartfelt thanks to the Taylor Glen team and gently encouraging them to receive care themselves.
“You’re giving a part of yourself, and that’s a gift,” heshared. This is a time to receive, not just to give.
One by one, team members were invited forward when they felt ready. Brian poured warm water over their hands, symbolizing renewal and release, while offering prayers tailored to what each person wished. The water, infused with lavender, rosemary and frankincense essential oils, filled the room with a calming, comforting scent. Each participant dried their hands on a towel they could take with them as a reminder of their intention, along with a prayer card to carry forward.
Moments like this reflect the heart of Taylor Glen. Our team members lead with empathy, resilience and love, and they deserve to be seen, supported and appreciated for all they do. We are deeply grateful for the hands that care so tenderly for our residents and for one another and for the light they bring to our community each day.
